For inspiration, me and the team researched various small spaces like jet cockpits and capsule hotels. We looked at not only the composition in these compact spaces but also what the user does inside, how they get in and out of the space, as well as how their use impacts the nuances of the interior.
We discussed all design features and construction methods using sketches. Because we had a short time to build and complete the model, most sketches were made in real time, as we explained our concepts to each other. It reminded me the importance of drawing to explain and communicate, without worrying about how good something looks.
This project was based on the promise of accurate ergonomics. We constantly found ourselves referring to Henry Dreyfuss' Human Factors in Design, and we also used our own bodies for reference.
