This bag is designed was designed to teach me the most about soft goods, utilizing zippers, waterproof zippers, pockets, clasps, French seams, and bias tape seams.
I began my pattern making process by first making a paper model, then a rough fabric model (seen on upper left), and then a canvas version (on the upper right) to be built the same was as the ripstop bag, to fully understand and work out the pattern.
Before I began my final prototype, I made sure to create a set pattern so that if I were to go forward with the pattern in one of the canvas models, I could work with the same precise dimensions. I laser cut my pattern pieces out of masonite and used them for 3 bags total.
My process including first making the pattern in a rectilinear format and then trimming the pattern down to arrive at curved and organic pieces.
The bag had multiple compartments for carrying different size notebooks, camera equipment, keys, etc.
Built in pencil-case compartment:
During my extensive user testing period (when I wore my bag daily), I found this to be the most useful feature, as I could have instant access to any application when I needed to write something down.
Especially useful when wearing jackets that don't have many front zippers!
