We met with Emergence Response Specialists at the Providence Fire Department to learn about the experience of professionals. They demonstrated their traditional equipment to us and described their procedures, allowing us to further understand their pain points.

We worked on several methods for retrieving the survivors onto the unit. One we liked the most, shown on the left, was based on the Cinch Rescue Collar that we were introduced to by the Special Hazards Unit in Providence, RI.
It was chosen because of its potential to be automated as well as the fact that it grabs the survivor from their back by the torso, allowing retrieval even if the survivor is unconscious.
